Name To A Handle & A Face To A Name

I've been pencilled in for an 18 Doughty Street appearance in early May. Like many bloggers, I am probably more eloquent in writing than in person (which in my case means I'm really in trouble). Just to dampen visual expectations, I'm a short, pasty-faced bloke with a whiny Brummie accent - if I wasn't balding I'd look younger than 32. My enthusiasm can come across as hyperactivity. Otherwise, I'm just a normal bloke.

I harbour fantasies of a verbal jousting with Alex Hilton, but the truth is that the topic for discussion is going to be local election results which will bring out the not-so-inner political geek in me. I'm slightly concerned about all the things that I disagree with Iain Dale about coming to the surface live on air. I'm by no means experienced with the medium of TV so any well-meaning practical advice would be gratefully received (should I wear my McLenin T-shirt?). On-topic, I'm going to a conference on arguing this week.

Probably I would avoid the "face in the shadows" look recently made famous by Guido

I wouldn;t worry too much. Shane Greer is presenting that night, not me!

Better you than me. I'd get out of my depth in a very small political puddle. Have fun.

Speak for yourself. Or rather don't, you're clearly incapable!

Anyway, I urge you to pencil yourself in for May 3. Election night and my birthday. What fun it could be...

Don't wear either the blonde wig or the off the shoulder with the heart shaped bodice - you will want to look slimmer not fatter!

Hi Prague,Mr true blue is rather worried too about me staying up into "the wee small hours" fact of the matter was I could`nt sleep due to overwork re. looming local elections ! As I live in Liverpool, I`m sure you can imagine, that its an uphill struggle trying to get the Conservatives back in Liverpool!

So what you're saying Mutley is that I forgot to mention that I am also overweight and given to cross-dressing. Trueblue - thise fighting for us in "unwinnable" seats earn my respect immediately - you are the heroes of the party. It's the poorest areas that will benefit most from a Cameron government.

Good Luck, I am sure some of you 'fans' on the left will tune in as well :-)

MW's tips for when on telly; keep as still as possible, no fidgeting or scratching, no rocking backwards and forwards, no shuffling paper or tapping fingers, speak clearly and slowly in your normal voice, avoid frowning, shrugging shoulders or touching face with hands, slight nods/shakes of head and polite smiles are about as much as you can allow yourself, don't wear a tie with a small repeating pattern (because of Moiré interference), no sweeping hand gestures (that won't show up anyway), make sure you don't bash the microphone clipped to your collar.

And the Golden Rule, do not start every reply with the word "Well" (or "Wool" or "Wheel") as most politicians seem to do nowadays. Try "I'm glad you asked that" or "I think..." or "Now..." or "A good question ..." instead.
