We Are All Tories Now?
Met a new group of people last night. When I mentioned that I have a political website, everyone who expressed a preference said that they were also conservatives. One chap, who is a teacher in his late 20s, wants me to send him the membership form so that he can join up with Conservatives Abroad. Excellent.

So successful were the Thatcher years, economically anyway, that it has created a new Conservative consensus. I'm not sure that this is the case in Prague, but I do get the sense it is in England.
I blog over at BUCF, that this may in fact work against the Conservative Party, perhaps even more than it has done during Blair's leadership. A great deal depends on Gordon Brown himself, but I make the argument that he is at least in good political position. He could leave the Conservative Party completely out flanked...
Any arguments against this point of view would be a relief.

I have just joined the Conservative Party again Mr PT... thought Id mention it.
What's your reason this time? I can't see another leadership election in the near future.
Oh well, mutley, I guess that makes up for me. My membership lapsed yesterday and I don't intend to renew it.
And I resigned some weeks ago. Afraid I can't stand Dave's BlueLab blatherings anymore!

PT - thanks for the offer. I was cosidering writing an 'open letter' to DC for possible publication on a blog. Trouble is, my main (though not only) reason is to do with the revised MEP selection rules, which are surely of interest only to card-carrying anoraks such as ourselves!
PT, thanks for your offer. Don't agree with your premise. I think that I am still a Tory; it's the Conservative Party leadership that has changed. IMO they are no longer Tories.
Fair enough for pulling me up on that, Mike. My conversations here were interesting because they were peppered with statements about it being more socially acceptable to admit to being conservative these days. I think that many conservatives have regained their self-confidence at a time when our leadership is struggling to show theirs.

Czech mate might prefer to join a more local branch. Iss - Cameron has little to do with expat mood in Prague. The mess that Labour has made of the UK does.
